Obituary for Melody Nivens

Melody Nivens
Melody was the beloved daughter of David and Lois (deceased) Nivens. She was the strong, supportive sister to Mark Nivens, wife Susan, Angelia Nivens, and husband Peter. She was the doting aunt to niece Courtney (husband Jeremy), nephews Ian and Max and great nephews Wes and Wil. Loved by many aunts, uncles, numerous cousins and all, Melody lived life as fully as possible.
She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, a place she adored and visited several times. Melody referred to herself as native Hawaiian. She lived much of her life battling complications of juvenile and adult rheumatoid arthritis. Never wanting her life to be defined by this disease, Melody fought daily to overcome pain with a smile on her face, telling everyone she was “fine”.
Melody graduated from West Charlotte High School in 1977. She lived in Charlotte for most of her years with the latter years being lived in Indian Trail. She enjoyed working as a medical office assistant at Eastover Pediatrics prior to going on disability. She loved children and especially her fur-baby cat Bachus. Rarely a complainer despite endless pain she was strong to the end succumbing to heart failure.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Sardis Baptist Church in Indian Trail NC. The family will receive family and friends from 1 pm to 2 pm followed by a celebration service at 2 pm. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in her memory to The Arthritis Foundation, 1355 Peachtree St NE, Suite 600, Atlanta GA 30309.
